How do I do that? It is a requirement of "Adobe Photoshop 7.9 Classroom in a Book" that I repeatedly restore the default preferences.

ALT+CTRL+SHFT on launch restores the default prefs. Modifying the prefs and then copying them to a remote "safe" location "saves" them. When the active prefs begin to behave badly, the corrupt version can be overwritten by copying and pasting the "saved" version back into the Photoshop folder.

Oops! Forgot to address deleting! Navigating to the Prefs in the Adobe folder and deleting them will also reset them to the default settings which will be displayed the next time the program is opened. I seem to recall an alert message telling me so.
The location varies depending on operating system. Mine (Windows XP) are under Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop on my C drive.

So I could just copy that folder somewhere, then reset the preferences, and then copy them back when I wanted to restore them?

My prefs seem to be in app data > adobe > photoshop > 7.0 > adobe photoshop
7.0 settings

Yes, this works, and is great if you like your Prefs configured in a certain way. For example, if your have a scratch disk setup you really like, or have multiple plug-in directories, it is often easier to copy-and-paste a fresh version of your pre-configured Prefs than to reconfigure them from scratch. I keep my copy in My Documents, far away from the Photoshop folder, yet handy.

I think you just mash the near left corner of your keyboard on PS startup… Ctrl-Alt-Shift I think
