Hallo!

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for rescuing images such as http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/2016/xclaw.jpg (from thi page: http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/2016/talons.html (to image)) from the awful "checkerboard" effect they have? I was tryin to use it for a quick Pshop piece I was doing
http://www.arcade-image.com/griffin_pshop_2.jpg and, as you can see, i doesn’t look great. Obviously theres no way of getting them perfectl sharp like an uncompressed hi res image would look, but is there a goo way of getting rid of the almost "canvassy" look the image has

Why don’t you write to the owner and ask if he/she minds if you use his image and then if he/she doesn’t mind ask if they have a better version.

Er…that "canvassy" look isn’t due to compression. There’s your first clue.

Don’t be faceatious – have a look round the site – the owner certainl doesn’t own the images themselves, god knows where they originally cam from
