The program background can be changed in the operating system.

If you mean the grey background around the image in the document window, you can select the desired colour as the foreground colour and with the paintbucket selected and the Shift key pressed down, you can just click on the background to change it.

Not exactly sure what you mean.

You can change the Transparency color from the checkerboard to white (none) in Preferences and you can change the gray tones and size of the checkerboard there too.

You can change the color of the "apron" around the work area by choosing a color and Shift-Paint Bucket in that area.

When you open photoshop, before opening your first file, the background is grey. I can’t find where I could change it, if it is possible.

It depends on the operating system. In WinXP you go to Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Advanced > Application Background.

I don’t remember. Something similar. It’s inside Control Panel > Display too somewhere.

I have mine set on black and my desktops are black also, very relaxing for my eyes and I hope to make my monitors last longer this way.

That’s interesting… i mean, will your monitor actually last longer if the backgrounds are set to black?

Cheers…
