Greetings all. Longtime Photoshop user, first time caller.

I’m ready to upgrade my HOME copy of Photoshop v5.5 to CS, which I use for both business and home use. I just viewed the demos for Photoshop Album and it looks great for what I’m wanting to do with my personal stuff, but I see that it’s designed to be paired with PhotoElements with no mention of Photoshop.

Question 1: does the Image Browser in CS handle the same tasks as Photoshop Album but with greater flexibility? I suppose the biggest thing that got my attention was Photoshop Album’s ability to archive to CD/DVD and keep track of images once they’re no longer resident on they system.

Question 2: If Photoshop Album has desirable features not found in the Image Browser, how well can I get Photoshop CS and Photo Album to play together?

Thanks for any light you shed on the subject.

While File Browser has been vastly improved in CS (still not perfect) it is not a replacement for Photo Album which does more in the cataloging, categorizing, and management department. I also think it has a better interface.

As for Album Working with Photoshop or just about any other program it is simple. Load Album find and image you want to work on and drag and drop it from Album to Photoshop and it loads in to Photoshop. Simple as pie.

All of this being said I wish Adobe would have been smart enough to design Album to recognize that Photoshop CS was installed and have itself replace the File Browser in Photoshop with Album. This could have been done with plug-in technology and would have been really nice. This way you had a decent browser with just Photoshop CS, but a great one if you had Album and you didn’t have to worry about learning two different interfaces and feature sets.

Now, for me I use and like ACDSee 6.0 better than either of the above options. I like the interface better and I like the feature set better. Also, like Album you can find what you want and drag and drop it to Photoshop and it loads.

Just my 2 cents,

keep in mind that the metadata you enter in album is apparently incompatable with PS CS… if that has any affect on your decision.

Robert,

The link you’re providing loads page after page and dialog after dialog asking me to download a lot of unknown things.

It took me quit some time to clear my task bar.
