I’m in process of setting up a new PC using XP Pro. All went well with PS7 but then suddenly when opening the Hue / Saturation option the program displays the Eye Dropper tool and hangs. I have to do a Control/Alt/Delete forced shutdown.

This appears to have happened after I loaded drivers for an HP Office Jet, or perhaps after loading the latest XP critical update (not sure). Regardless, I removed both the HP software and PS7. (In both cases I cleaned out the registry as well.) I then reinstalled PS7 and the problem still remains. Oddly, this is the only function that doesn’t work. Also, the HP drivers have trampled my Epson 2200 drivers apparently. Although the printer works, the Status Monitor doesn’t.

=Has anyone out there any idea what IO can do, short of doing a complete clean install on this machine?

Ahem, you do, of course, make a rollback point every time you install something? No, thought not 😉 Point the First – that’s what system restore points are for (especially when you’re installing anything that may have system wide effects such as drivers. Use them or lose them! 😉

There is a solution, well a possible one anyway, but you’ll need to hack the registry.

Point the second if you’re HP driver is causing problems with your Epson driver – there’s a (possibly) simple solution – Uninstall both of them. Then install the HP driver *first* and install the Epson driver second. Then the HP driver has no way of interfering with the Epson driver. Of course, you might then find the Epson driver interfering with the HP driver….

Mail me if you want step by step instructions on how to try and "unscrew" the system 🙂

Thanks.

I was able to rescue the system, but only by deleting the HP. FWIW, HP OfficeJet T45 XP drivers do not pass Microsoft’s XP certification, but HP insists they "work fine under XP". I fell for it and toasted the system. I simply moved the HP back over to the old Win98 system where they co-habitated nicely with everything else.

PS7 issues went away as soon as I removed the HP driver and cleaned out the registry completely. Unfortunately there are still some residual issues with XP that I’ll try to live with, as a clean reinstall isn;t worth the time & effort right now.

Thanks again for all your help.
