I use Ctrl-Plus and Ctrl-Minus a lot to zoom in and out.

But sometimes, it suddenly doesn’t work. Ctrl-Plus zooms out and Ctrl-Minus does not react.

What’s wrong?

Maybe trash Preferences? It could also be a hardware problem.

What happens if you use Spacebar-Ctrl and Spacebar-Alt to zoom? I find that more convenient anyway.

Dump your prefs. Hold Alt+Control+Shift while launching Photoshop.

This will restore your preferences to the default settings like when you first installed the program. Dumping the prefs is a common fix for annoying quirks that pop up every now and then, especially tools and shortcuts that misbehave. One thing you may want to do is set your prefs the way you like and then copy them from your adobe folder (in Explore) and put them in a safe place. Next time something like this happens. you can copy the saved version and paste over the corrupt version.

Great
But my prob now is that I have a macro that I use very much for the next weeks, and I do not have the time to find out how to make it again.

Hit Yes. That’s called Trashing Preferences. Photoshop will rebuild the file. Unfortunately your settings will be gone and have to be remade but nothing else is lost.

One other thing you might try first, is to select your zoom tool and go to the upper right portion of your screen to the zoom tool options bar. Click on the down-pointing triangle and then the right-pointing triangle and reset the tool(s). This may or may not work.

But maybe you can help me:

I need to know what I defined my 2 actions to do – I cannot find out where I can see that.

Three questions: Are you working in Windows environment, do you have non-US keyboard layout and does it work if you use +/- from numpad? I’m asking because i’ve had similar issues time to time, looks like that sometimes PS kind of a forgets my layout and returns to english keyboard layout and some of the keyboard shortcuts are working wrong. If zooming works from the numpad (there is no change in keys between different layouts), this might be the case. Only workaround i’ve found is to keep Windows language bar visible on taskbar and change the layout manually to english and back again (you can also set the appropriate shortcuts for change). btw. In english layout minus-sign is in the place of plus in my native kb layout.

I don’t know is it somehow related to the same problem, but i’ve also noticed that sometimes i can’t paste from clipboard without closing and restarting PS (maybe changin kb layout would help here too, have to try next time), both of these minor (to me anyway) problems have been around many years and in many PS versions (can’t really remember exact time i noticed those, i’ve been using PS occasionally from 2.5 and continuously from 4.0.

You can save the set which contains these actions to any folder and load it later, if the actions should be gone after resetting to defaults. RTM on saving actions. Given that you live in Denmark, check wether your keyboard problems are caused by the keyboard driver you use. German keyboards do not support all shortcuts.

STUPID ME!

I have installed an extra keyboard, and I did not know that I could swap between the keyboards using Shft-Ctrl – so that caused the problem!
Thanks to all who tried to help me, and please excuse me for the inconvenience.
