Forgive me if this is a basic question. I am trying to print a photo from Adobe Photoshop 6.0 to a printer. Each printer so far (one Lexmark B&W laser, one HP all-in-one, Lexmark all-in-one) print the image fine except there is a right margin of what looks like a half an inch. Even if I select boarderless the image prints fine on all three edges except the right still has this right margin or gutter.

I have gone under print options and changed things around but cannot find any thing that changes this right margin. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Krugar,

Many printers have mandatory minimum margins, including about a half inch for the right margin. You could "trick" your printer by telling it you are printing to a custom paper that is one-half inch longer than your actual paper. But that may cause a problem because the printer can’t grip paper that isn’t there.

I have on occasion "tricked" my old Epson Stylus Photo by telling it I was using a custom paper size different from what I was actually feeding it. But you have to be very careful not to make a mistake or you can have your printer printing on air, which can cause quite an ink mess inside your printer.

A simple method to determine the maximum size is to make a file that is the exact size of your paper. Put a vertical and horizontal line on it that extends to the edges. Print, specifying the maximum size possible in the printer dialog. On my Epson, that is a margin of about .375 top and bottom and .125 on sides.

Burton,

Glad to find your commentary
I’m assuming you’ve checked and found there is no way to change this stubborn margin, and that it is for sure a printer issue and not a software/Photoshop issue. I’ve got the same issue with a EPson 2200, and wonder why the printer needs this, a foothold perhaps?

ANyway, have you got any tips in how to ‘trick’ the printer effectivly, and what how serious is the damage that you can inflict on the printer.

thanks
