Unhandled exception error during CS install

I cannot install PS 8 (CS) on my machine. I get past the welcome screen during install, choose PS 8, then the language, before this happens:

I get the following error message : Unhandled exception. Error number 0x80040706. Description: Object reference not set. Setup will now terminate.

It’s a Windows error message. My references do not show an 0x8….. so what I would do is research that message at <http://support.microsoft.com>.

Several others here may also have a comment. Dave M?

sounds like a dll error. first thing to try is empty the temp folder, reboot in safe mode and try again.
