I’m very confused about the right "color settings" to use…

I use CS for create and publishing textures for 2d and 3d usage, desktop wallpapers and other sci-fi/space related imagery.
The goal is to have a color representation in my monitor close as possible of what a casual user can see in their Pc.

Today I’ve realized that something is wrong here, I kindly ask your help.

Currently I use the "Photoshop 5 default Spaces" (RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1), but there is some problem in the dark colors range… A blue color showed in CS is then represented very dark using an external image viewer like acdsee.

I’ve tested the sample image in various other Pc (both Lcd and Crt display) but nothing to do, the image is very dark.

I’m interested to know the best color settings to use in CS for creating images optimized for video usage.

About the monitor settings, I’ve a Philips Brilliance 202P40 22"set as 6500k color temperature

Adobe Gamma set as follow:

sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Phosphors: P22-EBU
Windows default Gamma 2.20
Hardware white point: 6500k

Any useful resource about monitor calibration, really welcomed!

Thanks in advance for any help
