I’m trying to make a selection of a bicycle wheel. How do I select the spokes? The’re too narrow to use the magnetic selection tool and too similar in color to the background for the magic wand.
So I’d like to be able to define a (narrow) rectangle over each spoke. Suggestions? Thanks..

Can you get some good contrast in a channel? Duplicate the best one and run Levels on it. Make a rough selection with Lasso and then with the Magic Wand Alt-click the negative space between spokes to "shrink wrap" the selection.

If you get a good selection save it as a channel. You may be able to use it for the other spokes.

sure you can create a straight line selection. first hit ‘q’ to enter quick mask mode. then use your line tool or brush tool to paint your lines in, when finished hit ‘q’ again and there ya go. easy.
