here’s another one for you…
is there a shortcut to get a guide to snap to the center of a psd as you drag it in from the side or top?
(i.e. hold something and drag)

CTRL+A (Select all) then ALT+S+T (Transform selection) then drag will work as long as Snap is enabled.
If you have a layer that completely fills the file window and doesn’t extend past the edges, CTRL+T and drag will work.

Or you can select View > New Guide and enter 50% for each direction.

If there’s another method, I would like to hear it too.

Just what I was looking for – thanks again, Peadge!
(though I do wonder if there is some way to have it snap in as I drag from the ruler, but this is just as good…)

You can hold SHFT and have the guides snap to the little "ticks" on the ruler. Something I just learned too is that you can ALT-drag a horizontal guide from the sides or ALT-drag a vertical guide from the top, opposite what is normally produced! This can come in handy if your tools are in the way or something. CTRL+; hides and makes visible.

I found that alt trick looking for the other key shortcut… pretty cool stuff.
Ya know, what I would really like now is a full printable list of all the ps7 or cs key shortcuts…
there must be hundreds, and no way I can remember all of them!

I remember I got a big heavy tri-fold sheet of shortcuts with Photoshop, but haven’t been able to find it in over a year. But if you go to Help and scroll down to the bottom of the left frame, there’s links to Windows Shortcuts and Mac Shortcuts. Maybe screen-printing and making a new sheet in Photoshop might be worthwhile!

Long ago I made an action that places a guide at the 50% point vertically and another at 50% horizontal. It’s very easy and you will never have the problem again. HINT: Change your units to percent before making the action, then back to whatever you had before. That way it will work on any size document.

🙂 Create New Guide – type in "50%" for one vertical and a horizontal.

The action makes that easier and automatic.

I have looked for this before, but had not found a comprehensive, print-format list like this
(there are so many sites with versions of lists or partial explanations) – this is exactly what I was after…
thanks so much!
