I am attempting to create a flyer for my business. I wish to make the flyer 1/3 of the page (3.66" X 8.5"). The image that I have created is monsterously huge for whatever reason. I have to say that I am very inexperienced with photoshop, so I must have done something wrong. The size of my font is 1296pt. If I only wanted to print one per page this wouldn’t be an issue because I can "scale to fit media" so that it formats the image to fit the page. My objective is to print out three images per page. If anyone can help, I would be really appreciative! Thank you in advance….

Scott

check the ppi setting in image> image size. for printing you probably want that # to be between 240 and 300ppi.

width is 462, height 194 The pixels/inch is 1. I attempted to change the width to a smaller number, but it merely appeared smaller on the page, but was still much larger than a normal page. In print preview it was still huge! Did I do it wrong?

Pixels per inch is the problem. Set it to the 240 to 300 that Dave recommends. It will print correctly.

I apologize for my ignorance. When you say 240 to 300. Are you saying 240 width and 300 height? That would mean that I have to uncheck the constrain proportions. And if that box is checked and I put the 240 in for the width, the height is automatically set to 105. I need three of these images on one page. Am I have to get into some copying and pasting?

one more thing… I just noticed that in print preview it showed that it was centered. I just moved it to the top of the screen. I changed the image size to 250 which turned the width to 105. The only thing I have left to do is create two more of these images on one sheet of paper. I’ve tried creating a new image (hoping that it would be a normal size sheet of paper and pasting three of them in there, but that didn’t work.

No, you are looking at the pixel dimensions of the image (the actual number of pixels the image is comprised of). He is telling you to change the PPI (pixels per inch, the print resolution of the image) to 300 – uncheck "resample image" and this will not alter the pixel dimensions at all.

When I change the pixels per inch to 300, the document size shrinks to .0833" for width and .35" for height. I unchecked the resample image box that allowed me to alter both the width and height. It does look fine when you look at it on the screen, but when going to print preview, you see how small it is.

Okay. You have created an image that will not work. You must start over.

Start by setting the pixels per inch at 300 and then set the width to 8.5 inch and the height to 3.66 inch. This will give you a canvas that you can start over with. Your current picture does not have enough pixels to work correctly.

There are a few other problems you may run into. Have you considered how you are going to get three of these onto a single page? If you are having them printed commercially (at a print shop) then you might be okay, so long as you remember that most printers require about 1/4 inch of blank space on the 8.5 inch end of the sheet (so don’t put any printing in this).

If you are printing on a laser or inkjet, then the problem is compounded. Now you will have margins on all sides, and usually of different amounts. I would run a test sheet through the printer to see how much space is available. It might not be 8.5 x 3.66.
