Hello,

I have used Photoshop 6 quite extensively and recently bought version 7. I have a strong impression that the way it handles tools (stamp, brush, etc.) with a blurred edge is different from version 6. For example, when using the clone stamp, with Photoshop 6 I have the impression that outside the displayed circle the image is left untouched, whereas with version 7 the cloning goes beyond the displayed circle. Can you confirm this ? I preferred the way things were handled in PS6, is there anything that can be done ?

Thank you

Jean-Marie

If you go into the Brushes palette and turn off all the dynamics for the brushes, you should get the same results as per Photoshop 6. Try the following:

1. Select a brush
2. Go to the Brushes palette menu
3. Select "Clear Brush Controls"

Thank you for the advice. Just to be sure, I have the French version of Photoshop, and the menu labels are not always the exact translation of the corresponding English version, so I am not quite sure how to access what you call the "Brushes palette menu".
I can reach a menu bar "predefined tools" which bears different items among which "Reinitialise this tool". I first thought this would be the one corresponding to what you call "Clear Brush Controls", but after trying I have the impression not.
I can also reach a subwindow entitled "Forms" with a lot of checkboxes on the left (the first of which is "Form Dynamics") and curved line examples on the right. There is a menu accessible there with different items, among which "New form", "Clear form options" –> do you think this might be it ? Jean-Marie

I don’t think you are looking at the Brushes palette. You can display it from Window > Brushes. Once the palette is displayed, click on the black triangle at the top right of the palette window, you will see a popup menu. One of the menu items is what you want. It shouldn’t be too hard to translate once you have the right menu.

No, it’s exactly the same in 6 and 7 (and 5, 5.5, 4, and 3).
