I need to make a circle like the ones on the no-smoking signs. I know how to use the elipse tool but do not know how to change the width of the line, as of now it is just a very thin line. Thanks

If you’re looking for the Circle with Bar, you’ll find a nice custom shape available. Click on the custom shape tool, then use the options bar drop down to find it.

soothsayer,

As Tony said there is a shape for what you want.

For future reference if you want to have only a border to a shape set the fill to "0" and add a layer style of stroke.

You can stroke a selection but it is considered destructive editing. I have noticed that most artists that move over from traditional mediums prefer destructive editing, many don’t even use layers. I think it is best to use vector shapes and styles that can be modified later and as many layers as you need to keep your work organized and easy to modify.

John,

if you have Illutrator do it there

Huh? Maybe I missed something but this is the Photoshop forum. Why waste your time using Illustrator for something that can so easily be done in Photoshop?

Simple geometric shapes…

Why choose raster if you can go vector?

Just because you can do it in PS does not mean you should.

If somebody was asking about typesetting a 60 page book in Photoshop, here in the Photoshop forum , would we tell them how, or suggest a different application?

Photoshop offers this very shape as vector <shrug>.

Yes… good point. Sorry, but I am a Scitex user from way back, and to me, vectors in PS are really raster fills inside vector masks, which don’t do all that well on a Scitex rip… It all goes to the CT layer at photo resolution, not plotter resolution. My bad.
