You don’t "import".
You simply "open".

Wasn’t specific enough. Sorry. Saved .jpeg file and tried to open in PS6 — response "cannot read file". Tried several .jpeg files and it changes them to .art.

How you make these jpegs?
Downloading from AOL?
..art is a further compressed filetype made by AOL conversion when uploading files to web on their servers, if you don’t set certain site options.

Your statement is further confusing in that PhotoShop will neither open nor write .art files.

No, took artwork from Google images and saved as .jpeg’s. Then in PS7 (not 6) file attempted to open and use. Instead, they came up as .art and could not be opened. Should I reload PS7 or maybe just the filters? Thanks for your help.

Think they must have been saved through Google as .art to begin with. They were probably downloaded from an AOL site.

Again, PS will not open OR save as .art.
It is not a PS problem.

You might try copying the original images, whatever they are, then pasting into PS to save as whatever you want.

Additonal thought.
Are YOU using AOL browser?
If so, use Internet Explorer to steal your images, rather than AOL browser.

Actually, yes, I am using AOL rather than Internet Explorer. I’ll try that next and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

As previously stated, use another broswer, rather than accessing the web via the AOL interface; but – FYI – if you to the AOL browser graphics settings and check the box that says "never compress images" then AOL will not use the .ART format. SaveAs choices will be .JPG or .BMP rather than .ART or ..BMP.
