WHat technique is used to accomplish the text being transparent to the rest of this image:

Place the text in its own layer (of course) and adjust the layer’s transparency. One step!

I adjusted the opacity.
Thanks – I did not know you could do that with text.

FWIW:
Once you get the text on its own layer … all of the layer options can be used. You can do some pretty neat things if you play with the layer merging modes … such as ‘Overlay’ or ‘Color Burn’ … and etcetera.

Another cool look is to apply a drop shadow to the text and set the flow to zero. This gives the effect of the text being made from the background pixels.

I tried to do that but don’t understand what you mean by ‘set the flow to zero’. Is this something that can be done in Photoshop v. 6.0 if so how?

Do you mean "Fill Opacity"? There’s no "Flow" that I know of in Layers. —

Do you mean "Fill Opacity"? There’s no "Flow" that I know of in Layers.

Oops! Yes, I meant "Fill Opacity" in the Layers palette. Photoshop wasn’t open at the time I posted and the last tool I had been playing with was a brush. I knew it was one of those. "f" words! Thanks!

In 6 Fill Opacity is in the Layer Styles dialog.
