I am trying to create 8X10 wedding album pages for my sister. I have taken multiple images and created them as layers on an 8X10 background. My question is, how align these images. For example, if I had 4 images on the page, I would like to align the top edges of the top two images, the bottom edges of the bottom two images, the left edges of the left two and the right edges of the right two images. Is there an easy way to perfectly align images with Photoshop? I remember seeing somebody do something so that images "snapped" to a specific set line. How do I accomplish this? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!

First:
You might find it a **lot** easier to use a page layout program instead of PhotoShop … they are designed to do exactly what you are trying to do. Think InDesign, PageMaker, Corel Ventura, Quark Depress, or even Serif’s PagePlus if you have the chance. Some of those programs even have demo/trial versions that you could use to get this project "out the door."

Second:
Set up some guidelines, and turn on ‘Snap to Guides."

There are at least a couple of ways to do this.

You can select the Move Tool (V) and link the layers you want to align. When you do this all the alignment tools in the options bar at the top become active. Your scenario will involve multiple stages of locking and unlocking different layers.

A better and easier way may be to place guides to where you want the edges of the images to be. To drag guides, make sure your Rulers are visible (CTRL+R or View > Rulers) and make sure Snap in enabled (View > Snap and Snap to > Guides or SHFT+CTRL+;). Move your cursor into the ruler area and drag out four guides–one each for top, bottom, left side and right side. SHFT_dragging will align the guides to the little "ticks" of the ruler.

Then just click on each image (make sure Auto Select Layer is checked in the Options Bar) and drag it to the corner of your choice. It will "snap" to the guides, automatically aligning them!

Just a suggestion.

You could make a mask with four cutouts where the images will be placed. That way you could move the images to get the best crop and all the pages would be exactly the same.

Example

Create a new layer and place it at the top of the layer panel.

Select the entire image area and fill it with white.

Create another new layer.

Draw rectangles and fill with black exactly where you want the photos.

Command + click on the layer with the black rectangles. (or use the wand tool to select all the black rectangles.)

Click on the layer which is solid white to select it.

Go to Layer>Add layer mask> reveal selection.

If done properly, you can now place images on layers below the layer with white and the images will only appear in the rectangles.

Link the layers you need to align. Then see the menu ‘Layer – Align Linked’. It has several options to let you align by various parameters. It works very nicely.
