I still consider myself new to Photoshop 6.0, but I learn as I go and have been fairly sucessful at creating the images that I need. That said, in the past I easily created transparent gifs to use on web pages using a variety of tools in Photoshop. I now can’t seem to create a clean gif transparency. It always seems to have a white line around the image. I tried using the custome shape tool to make a very basic black button, but instead of sharp lines I get a slight glow around the image (maybe 1 px). How can I get a crisp black image? Did I do something weird to my settings?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Rod

it’s in the Anti-aliasing or the transition between the graphic and the color you’ve created it on.

Best suggestion is to create your graphic on a solid color background that matches the page color or design on your web site. Then when you assign transparency to that color, it’ll blend at the edges with the page and look clean.

Thanks Larry,
I’ve followed your advice in the past with success, but this page has a textured background (water) and the solid colour thing doesn’t work. I think I’ve done some weird setting thing because even when I go to draw a simple black box or try to type black text on a transparent background then save it as a gif I get the white line around all the edges. Didn’t do this in past projects so I’m not sure why it is doing it now.

Check out this graphic I created for my father’s web site: <http://avyberman.com>
The graphic is transparent and on a sky filled with clouds.

I used the home page graphics as a tutorial:

Larry –

I just wanted to say that I went to the site and liked it very much. It’s very touching.
