[CS] Entering text ‘normally’

I am trying to enter a poem onto a photograph, but I’m more than green when it comes to PS and obviously don’t understand the settings.

The first line of the poem is a question: –

"What’s the time?" but when entered into PS, it looks like this: –

"?What’s the time"

If I continue to enter text on the same line, the question mark with then find its rightful place but, as it’s a poem, the next line has to be on the next line.

So I’m now left with

"?What’s the time
The wind or I can tell you…"

How do I overcome this problem?

I should add that PS CS was a Christmas present and, coming as I am from the world of PSP (I still use 9) I’m finding it more than a little overwhelming! Is it possible to type in PS just as you would in Word, for example? I don’t want punctuation left orphaned at the beginning of lines!

Would some kindly soul help this poor idiot? She’d be more than grateful!

Hm-m-m, interesting. Having used PS for many, many years, I have never seen this situation arise. I have no answer for why it is happening on your machine. What might be a work-around, however, is to simply Ctrl-c/Ctrl-v (PC) the text into PS in Text Mode. Using Word, NotePad, etc. simply type your poem, line by line, and then Copy (from) and Paste (to PS). Maybe others can actually address your specific problem, at least I hope so.

PS, I’ve found that the editing of Type in PS CS does get a bit strange looking on the screen, but updates nicely, when I’m done. This has happened on both a workstation and my laptop. The text will continue to show the original text, as I edit it (the highlighted area usually appearing within the original text, with the updated text highlighted), but then changes out to the edited text, when I exit the Text Tool. A bit unnerving at first, but seems to work out OK, when complete. I don’t like that aspect, but have learned to trust and live with it. This is quite different, though, to what you are dealing with.
