Hello. I’m using PS CS on WinXP and am a new user. Wow, what a program!

I finally figured out most of the fine points on the Crop command, but I still can’t do the following. I want to enter the crop size (8" x 10" or whatever) and have a crop window pop up to be moved (NOT resized) around the current layer. IOW, I don’t want the photo pixels (say 300dpi) to be resampled/resized, I just want to erase all pixels outside of a 2400 x 3000 box that I move around the layer until happy with the crop.

So far the only way to do this is manually size the box, which is very time consuming to get it exact.

Thanks for any help!

Jim,

Bug or Feature, it’s been discussed here a lot that when you enter specific values in the Crop Options, you will resize your image according to the defaults in your preferences (specifically, whatever is in the Image Size Dialog). I use crop all the time, but never enter values, thus ppi is unaffected.

Photo Help’s recommendation is the best way to specify specific sizes while preserving the ppi of the image.

Peace,
Tony
