I am trying to do some artistic drawing on a particular shape in PS V5. I tried scanning the shape and then bringing it into PS but then I still have the palette behind it. What I want is to only have the shape I want to work with visible, not the palette behind it. Can someone tell me how to best do this?

Thank you!!!

Not sure what that means. What is the "palette" that you refer to?

If you mean you want the object to be on a transparent background you will have to eliminate the pixels around it, or mask them out. I don’t remember back to 5 that well, but I think you have to change Background to a Layer by moving it slightly or duplicating it. Then use the Magic Wand or some other selection method to select the background color and hit Delete or make the selection into a Layer Mask.
