I can’t seem to get the patch tool to work properly in CS. I’ve used the tool a lot in the previous version and have been successful. I’ve checked "help" – the forum, the book, restarted my computer, and have spent hours trying to get it to work. My Ram is 640 on Windows XP, 80 gig and a 1.3GH processor. I have made sure the layer I’m working on is the selected/active layer. Sometimes I see where a slight change was made so in checking the opacity it is set at 100% and it (patch tool) isn’t doing what I’ve come to expect it to do. Any suggestions please? Would there be a setting somewhere that applies "behind the scene" to the Patch tool? Thanks for your help.

Suzanne,

Whenever things don’t work as expected in Photoshop, the first thing to try is deleting the preference file – details in the FAQ at the top of this forum’s Topic List.

Thank you. I deleted the prefs, but it didn’t work. Here’s an example that might help: Left side of photo is blue. Right is black. I want to cover the black with blue. When I make the selection in the black, drag it to the blue, the selection turns blue appropriately until I release the mouse button, then it goes back to black. Thank you for whatever you can come up with! (Should I uninstall Photoshop 7?)

I am new to photoshop CS but I dont think you can patch solid colors from one to the other. I believe it is more for matching textures.
My CS does the same as yours.

Thomas, you are probably right. My memory has probably played a trick on me (again)! I used the clone tool then touched it up with the patch tool and the finished product was what I was going for. Thank you for your input… made me look in another direction and I was able to do my project!

Ha Suzanne
That is what is happening it is sampling the pixels around the selection and saying that black is the appropriate colour for here “That should keep the user happy”
PC’s are dumb!!!!!

Cheers
Ray 🙂
