I am trying to blend a rough edge from a pic that originally took the edge of an arm. This pic is now at the center of the canvas, and I can not resize or crop. The position is practically the focal point of the piece. I have tried layer masks, using the gradient tool, and soft edge brushes for effect. With my present knowledge, it’s not gonna happen. I’ve tired of randomly trying alternative moves like coping and pasting sections, applying the blur or smudge tools, and was hoping the "photoshop gods" were up for a little salvation. Throw a dog a bone, would you?

Can you post the image somewhere to show us what it currently looks like?

I would gladly do so, but I have no idea how to. I would be happy to email it in any format desired. I guess pdf would probably be what a person would want. Also, I could name the file Praying Angelic Trinity" and share the file on Kazaa. Let me know, I love to work my designs.

Much better to put it on the Web somewhere. There are lots of free places to put a modest size file. Maybe your ISP provides some space. If you have a Yahoo account [free!], you get file space you can use for this purpose.

is the arm alone on a transparent layer? if not, that’s the first step.

select the arm (only) then copy (crtl-c) paste (crtl-v) that’ll make sure the arm is on a transparant layer.

then crtl-left-click the new arm layer. (selects all visible pixels).

then click the "add layer mask" button at the bottom of the layers palette (should create a layer mask around the arm, on the same layer, and automatically select the mask).

Then use filter> blur> gaussian blur. adjust the radius to feather the edges of the arm. not too much, you don’t want to make it transparant, just feather it.

then select image> adjustments> levels and adjust the left and right sliders to "tighten" or "loosen" the feathering.

hth, happy new year, dave
