I have opened a file made a duplicate gone into a different frame mode by pressib F key.
Made a selection with the oval mask tool and then try the keyboard shortcuts and none of them are working…..argh.

Am I missing a setting somewhere? Have I inadvertently pressed a key which has killed the shortcuts?
or this a dreaded bug?

(PS 6.1, win XP SP2)

The shortcuts come back to life after I restart PS6.1.

Thank you for any advice.

Mow much RAM do you have? How much RAM is allocated to Photoshop in your Prefs? How many history states do you have set in your Prefs? How often are you saving?

I don’t have any tips for you – but unfortunately I’m experiencing the very same thing now in CS on Mac – however this is permanent, as there is no of the "inline" keyboard functions that works. Eg. pressing space no longer switches to the hand tool and so on – making it very hard to use. The funny thing is that pressing h changes to the hand tool, but alas – the others do not work.

I tried restarting, and trashing all the prefs. I’m on 10.3.7 on a 1.5 Ghz with 1.5 gigs of RAM, so that cannot be an issue.
Any help?

Thanx

Not on my Mac right now, but look at your System Preferences. I believe you have to turn off the System using (highjacking) keyboard commands. in there somewhere.

On Windows machines that behaviour is associated with either a cracked (pirate) version of PSCS or a problem with the keyboard driver if the copy is legit.

Andreas,
There are two known issues with PSCS on Mac OSX that can affect PS keyboard shortcuts:
One is running Microsoft Entourage in the background while using PSCS- the most recent update from Microsoft should fix that.
The other situation is running the OSX Terminal app and having Secure Keyboard Entry checked.
Try updating from Microsoft or unchecking "Secure Keyboard Entry" to see if that’ll clear up your problem.

Thank you so very much. It was exactly what I was experiencing, at it fixed it right up. I don’t know why I had ticked the Secure Keyboard Entry, but I had and it was causing it.
Thanks
Now I can use PS again 😀

i have 4 cache levels,
20 history states
and utilising 90% of memory for PS
and have 512 MB of ram

i don’t multitask much when using PS so 90% should not be a problem.

I save as often as i can especially if it is important work.

Andreas, I had already read about the Microsoft Entourage issue in the Adobe Forums, glad to see cb was able to help. But still have not found a solution to the windows platform.

90% might be a bit high since only 10% is left for your operating system and programs running in the background…antivirus, spyware blockers, etc. I’d reduce it to 50-60% and cut the history states down to 8-12. Let the scratch disk take up the slack. You may also want to purge once in a while (Edit
Purge) to free up some RAM.

Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and look under the Processes tab and add up the memory usage for the essentials and see how much is being used. Allow a little leeway and allocate a bit less than the amount of RAM remaining to Photoshop.
