Has it stopped even if you restart photoshop?
Yes, I’ve restarted Photoshop, restarted the computer, tried a different keyboard, replaced the prefs file … nothing has helped. It’s too weird!
Ron,
Are you running any other programs that could also be using that key combination?
Have you installed any new programs recently?
Photo Help – you’re a genius!
I’d installed a new firewall and after shutting that off, my Ctrl Alt L works just fine. Thanks for your help!
ron, in cs you can reassign that shortcut to whatever you want so you can continue running your firewall if you like.
Thanks Dave – I know you can assign shortcuts to menu items and such but how would you make a shortcut to something like ‘Ctrl Alt L’ that isn’t available on any menu?
Isn’t Image|Adjustments|Levels Ctrl-Alt-L?
right, make a shortcut to levels.
The shortcut for Image>Adjustments>Levels is Ctrl-L. Adding the Alt key brings up the Levels dialog box with the same adjustment settings as last time you used it. Since there’s no way to access this function through a menu, I don’t think there’s a way to reassign a shortcut key combination…
is there?
ah, ok, no. get a firewall that doesn’t steal key combos! 🙂
zonealarm is good and it’s free. <

dave,
can you get ZA to *specifically* block an IP number? I am referring to the freeware version. I have tried, but can’t seem to get a specific BLOCK in place. A firewall isn’t much good if you can *tell* it what to block and what to allow!!
When I add an IP number, I get only "trusted" and "internet" as options, no "block".
any thoughts?
ps ..sorry for the OT
not sure what you mean gh, if it’s not specifically allowed through, it’s by definition "blocked".
dave,
go into Firewall -> Zones and try to add an IP … for the fun of it, choose something like google or yahoo …. and see if you can get it to specificall BLOCK access to the site?
When I click on Add -> IP, I get a dialog that will allow me to add an IP, by default it’s "trusted" and I click okay. Then I when I right click on the added IP I only have the options of either "internet" or "trusted" zones … no ablility to block it. I even told ZA to block both internet and trusted zones with no effect. I must be doing something wrong!
If it’s trying to connect through your browser, it’s using port 80 and cannot be blocked with a firewall. You can block a specific IP with the HOSTS file through redirection.
A firewall isn’t much good if you can *tell* it what to block and what to allow!!
But you can. The firewall is watching your ports. Once you designate that a program is allowed one, or two way communication with a port, you cannot control it further from there. ZA allows you to tell it what programs may connect, and how they may act (e.g., as a server), unlike other firewalls. So you have in effect more control. But if an IP is giving you trouble, that connects through port 80 using your browser, the only way to block it is to tell your browser it isn’t allowed to use port 80 (silly), or to redirect the IP via the hosts file.
Peace,
Tony
oh, block outgoing access TO a site… Not sure if the full version does it, but I think you’re looking for something like "Net Nanny" or "Cyber Surfer" or the like. Something that allows you to restrict user inputted access. ZA is for protecting your system from INcoming access (or from progams on your system from accessing at all).
iow, no i don’t think you can do that kind of restriction w/za.
okay, how do I use the "hosts" redirect? Is there a net link for that? Yes, I can do a google search, just thought you might know off the top of your heads. 😉
Tony,
will you please email me? Click my login name for the addy. THANKS!
um, then again, it seems to be missing! grasshopper_jrAThotmailDOTcom
GH,
I believe ZA is application based. If you allow internet explorer you are allowing all sites. Beyond that you would need a content filter <
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/ Servers/Proxy/Filtering/Censorware/?tc=1>. It sounds to me like you want an application to prevent children from going to unapproved sites.
Most people want a firewall to protect them from viruses opening ports and outside intruders trying to gain access to their network.
If I had kids I would run a proxy server with filtering capabilities and a router to provide a hardware based firewall. No matter what you do to a local system to stop kids it can be bypassed.
thanks for the suggestions and links everyone 🙂
