I have photoshop 7 on my old computer

I have now bought a new computer to replace the old one and I want to install PS 7 on it.

Problem.

The serial number as recorded in the system information of PS on the old computer is 20 digits long and when I go to use that in the setup on the new computer it wont recognise it. "Not a valid serial number".

The setup appears to need a 24 digit number

What am I missing?

The original install CD.

The number shown in PS system info is intentionally truncated, to prevent exactly what you’re trying to do.

I guess my alternative is to network the two computers.

If a person was to look for a keygen (which I have never heard of until now) I wonder where they would start?

The first thing they would do is find the CD case the PS install CD was in and look on the back to see the rest of the serial number. The one reported in PS doesn’t include the -nnn at the end.

As others have stated, you need all of the characters, not just the twenty that you have. If you cannot find the original CD case, the copy of PS7 is legit, and you did register it with Adobe, they will have you in their database. Call Adobe and explain your situation. If all is on the "up-n-up" they will step you through with no problem. When I upgraded AI from about v3 to v7, my s/n was from my v1 and, hence wasn’t even in the upgrade’s database. One phone call to Adobe, 2 minutes of searching and typing, and my upgrade was installed and working. I’ve been able to upgrade flawlessly with each release up through CS – no problems. Adobe is very good this way. Just make sure that you own a registered copy of PS, before you call, otherwise there may be a knock at the door, while you attempt to install! :-{
