I am new to PS and I would like you help with best setting to select when installing an online printing house ICC profiles. I am using EZPrints as my outside printer and have loaded their ICC profiles. When opening the Proof Setup window in PS I see several choices….
1) the first one will be "custom"
2) second one lists EZPrinters ICC profile, below it there is a choice for "preserving color numbers" Should this be checked or not

3) Then we have "intent" for choices here…perceptual, saturation, relative and absolute colorimetric
4) Use Blackpoint compensation…checked or unchecked
lastly
5) Simulate paper white or Ink black

Once again I am trying to find which is the best/correct choices here when using a custom ICC profile given to me by an external print house.

Thanks

Carlos C.

Are you going to convert your files to this profile before sending them in for printing, or do you just want to soft-proof to this profile to see in advance what your pics might look like? (Or both?)

2) second one lists EZPrinters ICC profile, below it there is a

"preserving color numbers" Should this be checked or not

No, definitely not.

3) Then we have "intent" for choices here…perceptual, saturation,

relative

and absolute colorimetric

Read in the on-line Help files about rendering intents, the Help info has a good explanation. Basically for photos you typically want either relative col or perceptual.

4) Use Blackpoint compensation…checked or unchecked

Check it.

5) Simulate paper white

This dims down your screen to better show the lower whiteness of the paper compared to the view you get on your backlit monitor. The image will look a lot worse on the screen with this checked but it’s supposedly a more accurate view of what the print will look like.

Once again I am trying to find which is the best/correct choices here

If just for viewing and editing then go with either perceptual or rel col intent and check ‘paper white’ (or not, if you think it’s too dim) and maybe make a layer set and add adjustment layers to tweak it to look best with this profile.

If you’re converting the file to this profile then ask them which rendering intent to use, check black point compensation and ignore ‘paper white’ since it doesn’t do anything when you convert, it’s just for viewing.

You might get some good info from this link, it was written for v6 but it hasn’t changed much …
