Hi all, I am working on a project.. I was given an .eps file that is cmyk but when opned looks like greyscale.. 2 boxes have names one them and each box crresponds to colors of the logo the boxes.. the logo is made of 2 colors…

My questions.. the two colors by the boxes are PMS 165 2X CVC and PMS REFLEX BLUE CVC what are these colors in PS CS?
When I do a color pick and go under custom I am oevrwhelmed by the PANTONE options …

The file given to me is an EPS.. when I open it in AI CS it just shows as a single image and when I outline it its just a rectangle… so I cant use AI to play with it..
In photoshop I tried to do color replace.. but when I select the color in the box that has the "PMS REFLEX BLUE CVC" next to it ( it is a different shade of grey thean the first box) and do a color replace by selecting the color reflex blue (or any color for that matter) the result is not a color replacement but the selected color in the logo only goes a shade lighter or a shade darker… even if i choose to replace the grey with bright yellow!! ( the color yellow appears int the selection box of course, but when I apply only the shade difference i mention occurs ?? 🙁 )

so to summarize..
what are equivalent choices in PS CS for the two colors above from the custom available swatches?
AND
how can i make an eps image opened in PS CS and rasterized at 800 dpi for clarity and quality colorful when i use the color replacement tool? Thanks

Possibly beacuse you have rasterized it in Photoshop so it is now just a bitmap.

Did you keep a copy of the original?

Sounds like you have a file with two spot channels, taking your "boxes" to refer to what you see in the Channels palette. How big is the file? If it’s just a few megabytes or less (Zipped or Stuffed) I could take a look at it — make the obvious deletions from my address to reply.

IME Illustrator is still pretty lousy at dealing with spot colour in raster images; don’t even bother.

Again sounds like you’ve got spot channels. The images themselves are greyscale, their colour being ‘assigned’ rather than ‘modelled’, if that makes any sense — they’re intended to be printed with a coloured ink on a press (the "2X" means that ink is printed twice for maximal coverage, IMO a bad idea wherever screening is involved). If so, any painting you do in these channels will get converted into greyscale according to the luminance of the colour you’re trying to apply.

I’m not clear on exactly what you’re trying to achieve. If you just need to change one spot ink to another, that’s done in the channel options: you can pick an ink from any of the supported libraries or even invent your own (although I wouldn’t recommend doing that without consulting with your printer or pre-press service). However, if you want a composite image to work with in the ‘usual’ way, or for reproduction in process colour or in multimedia, you’ll need to merge the channels into a different model, whether CMYK, RGB, or Lab. (OTOH if it’s really some kind of vector art to start with, why would you want to rasterize it?)

I tried in return, but got:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I’ve given up. Sorry it didn’t work out.
<luis#####@yahoo####.com>:

(I replaced the figures with number-signs for the purpose of this posting, but I’ve double-checked that the original address is what you gave above, aside from the quotes.)

66.151.151.28 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 No mailbox found, mail denied Giving up on 66.151.151.28.

So let’s see if this version of my address gets through Google while remaining comprehensible: it’s my handle (as below but with a small "o") followed by the number "1479", at Yahoo Canada (the domain is .ca).
