I have a scan of an old colour slide from 1959 that I want to fix up. I may be a newbie with PSCS, but I’m getting the hang of it. There’s just one feature of the picture I’m finding it difficult to deal with.

The subject’s hand is coloured magenta (although the face is OK), almost pure magenta. I plan to correct this by duplicating the base layer, changing the colour balance to cyan and/or yellow, then making it into a mask and revealing it only over the offending hand. (I got this stuff from Scott Kelby’s book – great!) My problem is that I can’t work out how to take the duplicated layer, and turn the magenta into cyan/yellow.

All helpful comments much appreciated! 😉

Try:

Image Adjustments>Replace color

OR

Image Adjustments>Hue Saturation

Or

Image Adjustments> Variations

Hi, you can select the area that you want to work on. Use the selection tool Lasso or the tool underneath it to pick lines to enclose the area that you want to edit. Once you have the area selected, use Image, Adjust, color balance or hue balance.

If you want to have a soft edge effect to your selection, use the feather effect in the selection menu. The feather effect creates a blend to the selection outer boundary.

hope it helps. full color printing.
