I have a Canoscan D1250U2F scanner and generally use the Photoshop Import facility for scanning, rather than the Scangear software that came with the Canon. When I scan and that scan is put into Photoshop, what format is it in? TIFF, JPG or something else? When I go to "Save As", the format shown in the ‘format’ box is always JPG. I know I can change that, but I’m just curious what the format actually is when the scan is finished and put into Photoshop. In the Scangear Software, I can pick a format prior to the scan, but there doesn’t appear to be that choice in window that opens for scanning in Photoshop. (Excuse my rambling.)

When you scan the image directly to Photoshop, it really is an undecided format until you save it. So in a way you could say you are simply dealing with a PSD, Tiff, EPS or any other lossles file format.

That clears it up…I think. Thanks.

Files are originally scanned in as Bitmaps, this is the basic uncompressed file format. When you have scanned something, have a look in your windows temp folder and you will see a *.bmp file this is where your scan is transferred to, and where Photoshop loads it from.

Would the scanned image not be in the designated workspace? Not Tiff or JPEG, but RGB, or CMYK, or Lab, etc.?
