I’m still working on the transition from PSE2 to PSCS. One thing I miss is the lack of batch file conversion in PS. This was real nice in PSE2. Do I need to develop a script to do it (something I’ve never done) or is it a "hidden feature"? I’ve looked in the online help but can’t come up with an answer. ReaConverter and IrfanView, my usual auxiliary tools, do not support the desired output (PSD), so I need another way. I also like to use as few tools as possible, so I’d like to do this from within PhotoShop.

I’m also looking for a way to batch resize images. Before it is suggested, I tried ReaConverter and it did not do what I’m after. What I want to do is resize my entire picture from, say 14 x 11 inches to 6 x 4.5 inches. With ReaConverter, I ended up with a crop from the original and I want the entire image resized. Using PSCS, I can resize individual pictures and save each one easily enough, but how do I do this as a batch process? (Other than that, I like ReaConverter a lot.)

As soon as I finish the IDCS Classroom in a Book I’m going to begin the one for PSCS, but I’d like to get these problems solved as soon as I can. Thanks for the help, people!

build a one step action then use ‘batch’ to work on all the files.

Can you clarify this? As I said, I’m making a transition and I have no idea what you mean by "build a one step action". Previously it was all automatic. Do I need to create code (something I’ve never done) or is there a keystroke recording function I don’t know about? I’ve used something similar with other programs, so I’m a little familiar with keystroke recorders.

I’ve been to PhotoShop Help and tried following the directions. My desired Action is not on the list. If I wanted to do the tasks listed, I don’t have a problem following the directions, but Resizing and Changing Format are not listed as default actions. I do not see a reference to the "Build" you mention.

sorry, i couldn’t get back to sooner, i had to run this morning and that was all the time i had for a responce.

when you start up CS, it’ll put a couple of small "tool" windows on the left side of the screen, one of these is the history/action window. just to be sure on the main menu click window->actions ( or <alt f9> for those NOT useing a cracked copy;) ) that *will* being up the "actions" window. now open a file you want to crop. then in the actions window just below the "x" to close that window y’ll see a ‘right arrow in a circle’, click this – that’ll open the actions options menu. first choose "New Set" from the options and give it a name ( i suggest " My Actions" for now ) in the dialog window that pops up. next click the right arrow again and choose "New Action" in the menu. give it a name that describes the action ( let’s use "Resize 200×200" ). when you press the ‘record’ button in the dialog, that dialog closes –
You Are Now In Record Mode – anything you do will now be saved as that action!

go up and choose Image->Image Size from the main menu, that will open the image size dialog, now make the selection for the resize you need ( in this case we’ll only change ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ both to 200 pixels ), click "ok". the image will resize. now go over to the action window and in the lower left corner there will be a red circle just left of that is a gray square – click that, that stops the recording. congrats you have just made your first action.

now go over to File->Automate->Batch. in "set" choose "My Actions", in "Action" choose "Resize 200×200". set up the "Source" for ‘folder’ and
choose the folder that has the images you need to resize. check or uncheck the 4 options as needed ( i recomend 1,3,4 checked ). Set "Desitnation" to ‘save and close’ and click "ok" you’ve just resized ever image in that folder to 200×200.

Thanks! I’ll give that a try later tonight and let you know how it went. BTW, I did get ReaConverter to resize my images, but as I said, I’d prefer to work in as few programs as possible. Besides, ReaConverter still won’t output to a PSD.

I tried it and it works… not exactly the way I wanted, but I think I can tweak it now that I’ve got a start. Thanks a lot!

Are you sure of that URL? I did not go into the site, but I don’t think Adobe would approve of the opening page I saw. Suffice to say it had an age warning posted.
