CS stands for Creative Suite. Each piece (PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc) is available individually or as an entire package. When you start PSCS it does show as Version 8.0, but they are calling it PSCS to indicate it is part of the Creative Suite. Adobe says the individual pieces (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc) have a tighter integration than previous incarnations did. I did not own any of these prior to purchasing Creative Suite Premium, so I have no opinion on that score.

PhotoShop 8 is CS, it is just a marketing method. I think Macromedia with Studio MX sounds better.

CS means it’s part of Adobe’s new Creative Suite
i.e. they’d like you to buy the whole suite instead of just Photoshop This question gets asked here almost daily – regular contributors tend to get fed up answering it.
