Hi

Newbie Question (ps 7, ai 10). I want to convert a process colour image to a single spot colour (and percentages) image for use in a 2 colour job. I cant find in help how to do this. Can anyone please help.

Also anything to watch out for/potential pitfalls when placing the image in illustrator for commercial printing purposed.

thanks very much

Latchet,

Sounds like a monotone-duotone will do what you require. Convert to greyscale and then Duotone>Monotone and select your spot colour. Save as Photoshop EPS for placement in Illustrator and embed rather than link the placed file

Len,

I follow all of your comments but was curious as to why you would "embed" rather than "link". Can you claify. Thanks.

When you embed, you get a preview and you can insure that the EPS will print correctly. Also if you place the Illustrator file in another program, like InDesign, linked files will not appear at all.

Gordon,

It’s an "Illustrator thing". Linked duotones usually fail to output…..

Thankyou very much.

Len you pop up everywhere… when do you find time to do your own work when you spend so much time helping others? Not that Im complaining, I appreciate your efforts very much.

Actually, duotones must be LINKED and not embedded in Illustrator 10.

When embedded, they convert to process.

When saved out for use in another dtp application, the file can either be saved with preserved links or include links. (include link is different from embedment)
