Hi All!

I’m new to this forum and I would like to ask some help on the Version Cue.

1. Is there a way to manually set the location of the project folder used by version cue? I am using Windows XP pro and the current location of what I believe to be the Version Cue project folder is in My Documents. Of course the program itself is in the Program Files.

2. When I look at the projects folder in the Version Cue workspace, I can see the different versions of the file I was working on, as expected. However, when I open the projects folder in My Documents (to where Version Cue made its own folder during CS Suite install) I can only see one file not every version of it. Why?

3. When version cue makes versions of a file, (say, leaf.psd versions 1 to 5) does version cue save each file in full MB or only keeps track of the changes and saves those incremental changes? I am concerned that if it saves in full each version of a file, it will soon fill my main hard disk where my OS is installed. This is one more reason why I wanted to manually transfer the version cue project folder to my other hard drive dedicated for data storage only. Security is not an issue since I work alone. I am aware that the My Documents folder is invisible to other user accounts in Win XP Pro, NTFS.

4. In your experience, how much computer system resources does Version Cue work efficiently on? My default setting is 128MB and I have 512MB RAM. My aim is to keep the main program itself, Photoshop CS running at full efficiency and having enough RAM which I belileve would suffer should I give version cue more RAM.

Version Cue seems like a redundant feature for Photoshop since Photoshop CS has layer comps which also lets you keep track of versions of your file by getting layer snapshots. But I think Version Cue is a really neat feature because it does more than just getting snapshots. I find that using it encourages me to organize well. Now if only I can manually reset its default settings.

Best Regards,

Ben R

Hello Ben,

There is a Version Cue forum here: <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.2ccdf140>.

You can select the place where your Version Cue stores data and back-ups by going to Control Panel>Adobe Version Cue>Locations and browsing your hard drive.

I don’t believe that you are meant to be able to look into the VC folders with Windows Explorer. You can, of course, always browse them with VC.

I’m guessing that The CS applications and VC would be much happier with more RAM. I have not used VC for any large files yet so I can’t comment on performance.

VC may indeed be redundant if you are using only one application from the Suite, but if you use several, it could be quite useful.

I’m not sure how much help I’ve been as I haven’t done all that much with Version Cue yet but I intend to make good use of it. I’m hoping that a Version Cue guru will appear and teach us.
