Good morning all!

I have read several way to eliminate/diminish under eye shadows but have always found that someone has and easier or more efficient way than published methods. I would like to hear how others handle this.

Thanks!

Clone tool at 20% opacity, cloning from lighter areas. Healing brush to put texture back in. Quick and easy.

That’s pretty much what I’d do to, only I would first duplicate the original layer and add a mask. Then clear the eye shadows as described (on the duplicate) and after the eyes are shadow-less and she looks 25 again, go to the mask and with opacity set low and with a soft brush, paint back in the original shadow, wrinkles etc. at a lower intensity. You can of course work back and forth with this, and you always have your original to flash back to, just so you don’t overdo things. While I’ve known a few old gals who say "give me the works and don’t hold back," it’s generally best to do all these retouch operations in moderation. Of course with PS there are lots of other ways to do this, including use of the history brush, but this is how I do it.

Create a new layer, set blend mode to Overlay and fill with 50% gray.

Grab a brush and use a low opacity and paint over. White will brighten and black will darken. Or different grays will work to. This is mainly a dodge/burn layer that doesnt mess with the main pic.
