I know this is probably a newbie question but here goes. Is there any way in Photoshop to to display the aspect ratio when cropping?

Thanks,

None that I know of. You can see the linear dimensions of the crop in the info palette.

There is a way to select an aspect ratio before you crop, which is mostly what you want anyway, if you plan to print to a fixed size, e.g. 4 x6 or 5 x7. Go to the Help index for the marquee tool to learn how. Once you have made the selection that you want, Go to Image > crop, then to Image > resize, > image size: check "constrained", uncheck "resample" and type one dimension for print size. Read the resulting PPI to see if it’s > 180 to insure a good quality print. If its less than 150, go back in History and change your selection.
