Black and white film to digital print

I’m interested in moving my black and white negative printing from my darkroom to my scanner, PS, and digital printer, but I don’t feel that I have a good grasp of the issues involved. For instance, I’ve heard that some scanner software doesn’t work well with black and white film; that amazing things can be done in PS vis a vis grain, enlarging, sharpness and tonality; that a 35mm negative can be blown up to any size with the right software. Are there any books, sites, software, PS filters, and/or add-ins that address the specific issues involved?

Sure, you can get "any size." But what that means and how it relates to the image’s resolution I’ll leave up to you.

And I’d add that if you are going to scan a lot of negs and slides then a good dedicated slide scanner would be the way to go.

And lets not forget a good printer, I have the Epson 2200 and love it I just tested it on some slides I scanned and it does a great job

Scantips is a great site, but I’m looking for material that specifically relates to black and white photography.

As far as printing goes, you may like to take a look at Permajet inks (in the US there’s a company called, I think, MSIS that produces pigment inks). Both companies, AFAIK, only produces inks for Epson printers, but they’re better than the inks you get from Epson.
