When "autoresolve" is selected for how to resolve name conflicts when moving images from one location to another using the file browser, PS can mix up images and their thumbnails if more than one conflict occurs.

1) Start with a bunch of PhotoCDs (each file in each photo CD is sequentially named, so if there are 50 files on 10 CDs, you start with 10 files all named IMG0001). The CDs contain some images that are identical to those on other CDs. That is, random duplicates are found spread across the collection.

2) Create a directory for each CD (e.g., create a new folder for CD 0876 using the name "CD876".)

3) Creat an action to open a PhotoCD image and save it to its associated directory in TIF format.

4) Run a batch process on that action so as to move all the images from the PhotoCD into its associated directory.

5) Repeat for all the CDs

6) Go into each directory and move images from one directory to another in a hopeful attempt to group the images by subject.

7) The move operation complains of name conflicts; choose Autoresolve and check the "apply to all" checkbox.

8) Examine the files in the filebrowser, delete what appears to be duplicate images.

9) Open the files that are left over.

10) Discover in shock and horror that what you see is not necessarily what you get. If you open some of the files, you’ll notice that the image underlying the thumbnail doesn’t match the thumbnail.

11) Hurry to recycle bin to recover those images you deleted because you believed the thumbnail.
