My first photo printer!

Regarding inks:

I am printing black and white photos. Are there any aftermarket black ink and paper combinations that, in your opinion, do better than Epson’s(glossy paper)?

Also, are any of those cheap color and black ink substitutes worth a try?

Thanks

My first advice is NEVER use non Epson inks unless hey are specialist ones such as Lysonic. The cheap ones are okay for snapshots but not goodenough for portfolio or exhibition quality prints.

There are some goog papers in the ilford gallerie range and Hannemueler (I think that’s how you spell it) have a good reputation. Kodak paper is good too.

There’s so many different papers it would take ages to go through them all. You might like to take a look at the Ilford ranges, Permajet range to name but two.

As for inks, the pigmented inks from Permajet are good.

There’s a reason they’re cheap – so the answer is no.

I get my paper from Aldi when on sale good and cheap.
I get inks from http://www.choicestationery.com/acatalog/index.html good and cheap.
Have an experiment.
