can’t load scratch disk

I upgraded to PS CS on my mac. the program works great but it does not see my external hd which is use as my scratch disk. can any one help. thanks tom

What do you mean with "Can’t see"? When does that occur? When you try to open a file? When you want to set the scratch disk again? And how is that disk formatted?
