I would like to apply the magic hour look to some photographs of a sky with clouds. I have experimented and achieved cheesy results. My approach was to create a gradient layer and set the blending mode to color. The gradient layer included hues of magenta, purple, and blue. Unfortunately my hues selection was not on the mark. My approach achieved un-magical results and overly saturated the image with these colors. The challenge lies in the white clouds, which should remains whiter than the sky. In addition, I need to convert the document to CMYK, which mutes vivid colors.

All indications tell me that the effects would require isolating many elements; blending each element; and adjusting the opacity; and hours of experimentation. Please let know about interesting process for achieving the magic hour look. A tutorial would be great. Plus, I would appreciate any great reference photography on magic hour photography (I already checked Google Images and Corbis; You could view the best example on the Adobe Photoshop CS website).

Sorry, I meant to post this link in the original post.

Magic Hour is the time just before sunrise or the time just after sunset. This is when there is enough light to get an photographic exposure. Landscapes photography exhibits a gradient of magenta, violet, and dark blue hues.
