Photoshop 5.5/7 compatability

I recently had some images created for me on a mac using photoshop 5.5, when trying to open them on my pc (win98) on photoshop 7 a message appears saying ‘could not open (project name) because it is not the right kind of document, is this because of compatability problems between the operating systems/photoshop editions? if not how can i open the .psd document?

Is there a file extension?

Michael,

Are you sure it IS a PSD format file? Even if it has a .PSD extension that may have been added to an EPS or TIFF or…..

My apologies, it was originally a TIFF and i saved it locally as a .PSD thanks for your help
