My option bar became unstuck from the menu in image ready. I’ve tried resetting the preferences in both photoshop and image ready, resizing the window, swearing at it, looking in help, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Doug,

You should be able to just drag it back or Use Window>Workspace>Reset Palette Locations

Dragging, reset, and starting with ctrl-alt-shift held down were all tried with no joy — tool options still floating.

You can’t dock the ImageReady Options bar/palette – for whatever reason. Don’t you love the inconsistencies? 😉

Doug,

In IR the options menu SHOULD be floating – it’s not like the options bar in Photoshop

So I guess it was never docked and I just noticed it?

Oh well, image ready is really pretty annoying anyway — it’s sort of the same as a photoshop but not really — I was only looking at it to complete Adobe’s "Class room in a book lessons". I don’t design websites and can only see using it to fine tune jpg’s bound for a web photo site. I’d rather just use PS but it’s pretty buggy when it comes to the camera EXIF data. The regular save/save as preserves the EXIF info but save for web drops the ball when used from PS. Image ready’s save optimized is able to save the exif data if you set the option in the add metadata settings.

Thanks

I can’t see why it should float but if it’s the way it is I guess it’s the way it is. If it would change from horizontal to vertical when it was moved or could be shrunk I could see a reason to have it detached. Personally I would prefer to attach it permanently to the tools. The way it is I find that it’s kind of annoying when the application window is resized to have it sticking out across the screen (along with the palettes)into the desk top or other application window.

Thanks

Doug,

The fact that the options bar can be extended outside the window perimeter, as is also true of palettes and toolbox, is likely related to those GUI elements being able to be positioned independent of the application windw. When using dual monitors, that characteristic permits you to move the GUI elements to a secondary display while leaving the Photoshop application window on the primary display with a nice, full-screen image.

Daryl

Thanks,
That makes sense, though it’s too bad you can’t turn this off and on, especially in image ready where I would think the need for a second monitor is less due to smaller image sizes.

Doug,

it’s too bad you can’t turn this off and on<<

You CAN turn the options bar off, or minimise it if that’s what you mean….

I meant it’s too bad you can’t force the palettes and option bar to stick in the image ready window. Not a big thing, just one of those little things that annoy. I’ve got a 22" monitor at 1600×1200(unfortunatly only one) and often run applications, like PS and IR at less than full screen so others may not even notice.

Thanks for the help. This forum works well for answers.
