Anyone know anything about the company CD Cheap (
http://www.getsoftnow.biz/cdc/index.php)? They are offering the OEM version of Photoshop CS for $80. It comes with no tech support, packaging or manual. Is it legitimate? You do get the activation key, and serial number. They guarantee 100% full working retail version.

Absolutely, Adobe regularly gives an 88% discount on its products. I heard you can get a new Hummer from the same web site for $24.95 what a deal. 🙂

Are you trying to help this crook by spamming for him?

C’mon, get real. Sure, send your credit card number to a guy operating out of an apartment in Russia, selling $600 software for $80 from a domain that he only registered last Sunday (Feb. 1, 2004). Yep, I’ll bet if you do business with this guy you will get everything you deserve and then some.

First of all, OEM products are often way more expensive than that. Second of all, that site is registered to someone in Russia with the following reg data:

Domain Registration Date: Sun Feb 01 13:20:04 GMT 2004

Domain Expiration Date: Mon Jan 31 23:59:59 GMT 2005

Domain Last Updated Date: Sun Feb 01 14:52:13 GMT 2004

As you can see, they are brand new. If you want complete registration data on that domain, go to networksolutions.com and pick the WHOIS search.

Im not sure I would risk giving my credit card to someone in Russia. In addition, it would appear that they are part of a purchasing network. Under the purchasing terms, there was something about agreeing to a periodic subscription fee. I couldn’t find anything that defined what that was.

Never do business with someone that doesn’t give you a phone number.

Good luck….

They take your money, send you nothing, and guarantee it. The fact that you ask this question shows why they still exist.
Send them the money and let me know what you got. Wheeee!

If you’re going to get a pirate version you may as well leach it off a Usenet group for nothing. However, if you’d like to give this, I’m sure, very honest person your credit card number, I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to take it.

God people are dumb. There hasn’t been an OEM version of the full Photoshop since Photoshop 5. Anyone selling and OEM version is selling pirated software that is illegal.

The r4eason spammers make a living is because in every pop[ulation, in every country of the world there are a fair proportion of idiots who will:

1. Buy stuff from web sites where you enter your credit card number and hope you get a product,

I was joking! ……………But to clarify matters, I believe you were correct in principle.

However it should be made clear that the phrase Barnum ‘never’ said, was in fact: ‘There’s a sucker born every minute’.

Just to add a little more, It is believed that this comment was actually made by a Banker named David Hannum, who was the loser in a scam perpetrated by Barnum.

They use a very clever and misleading terminology.

In their FAQ they say they’ll send "100% full working retail versions – no demos or academic versions!" Beware: they talk about "versions", not "cd’s".

Copies of retail versions are retail versions too. The versions, mind you, not the cd’s themselves. They don’t say "we don’t sell copies"…

You may be right *but* who knows you may be dead wrong? I don’t know about this specific Photoshop CS but I had seen couple large and well known American companies were selling the OEM version of Photoshop 5 or 6 or 7 or something like that, and I remember the price was somewhere around $125-150 a pop.

About copied CD, yes there are some cases you can buy the OEM version and the store can just copy the program from their hard drive, network or whatever and give you the copy on regular CD-R, or you can download from internet yourself then you can burn to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW or just keep it on hard drive if you wish. And like some new system, they don’t even give you the copies on CDs but they have all the bundled programs copied to your hard drive.

I bought an Photoshop 6.0 OEM on eBay Germany for around $50, which I could then upgrade. SO at least 6.0 exists in OEM versions.

Just for info: OEM version can be freely traded in Germany. Microsoft lost a case at German High Court.

No. You are wrong. I bought, with VAT receipt and everything, a an unbundled Photoshop 6 OEM. 2 CDs, both Mac and PC versions in French, Italian, Spanish, English and erman. Only a PC serial number though. Looking at the CDs and the jewel case with its seal, labels, serial #, I have no doubt it is genuine.

To prove you wrong, I went to the Adobe website, and registered my version 6.0 OEM version. It went into their database without any trouble.

Now, Germany is probably the only country where it can be sold unbundled of hardware (just like OEM versions of Windows and other software), which is why this is the market to buy it on.

Searching for Photoshop OEM I came up with these overpriced places to buy it:
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/lmasoftwarecom/adph7oem.html $375 http://shop.store.yahoo.com/lmasoftwarecom/adph6oem.html $275

Now, since you can buy Photoshop Elements for $99, and the upgrade to Photoshop CS for $299 the OEM version has to be cheaper than above links to be a bargain.

I didn’t know you have poor vision <g>

http://www.gamerstemple.com/news/0603/060321.asp

The "2nd Prize: Adobe Photoshop (OEM)" displays Big and Clear and you can’t see then how can I make you see <g>

Goodness yes, oh me oh my, we HAVE to take a crappy
GAMERS site, covered in banner ads, as *PROOF*!

http://www.macroware.com.au/shop/scanners.html says

"Includes PhotoShop OEM 6" and I don’t know how you can miss it?

Wow, a poorly written badly laid out scanner page in AUSTRALIA! THERE! That’s the PROOF we’ve been looking for!!

And how can I take your word for it when you can’t even see the information I pointed to you?

Oddly none of the information you’ve provided is preceeded by http://www.adobe.com Don’t you find that odd? I know I do.

Ok I have poor vision, I am only a photographer you know… Why would you expect me to read all the way down such a page? Anyway, I’ll believe there is an OEM when you point me to an Adobe page about OEM versions..
Meanwhile don’t believe everything you see in the papers or on the web.

Then you should listen to the one with better vision who tell you what they see.

Why would you expect me to read all the way down such a page?

Read to see! read so you won’t say you can’t see.

Anyway, I’ll believe there is an OEM when you point me to an Adobe page about OEM versions..

You must be a nut to ask Adobe to sell OEM version, or Western Digital, Sony, Maxtor etc. to sell OEM drive.

Meanwhile don’t believe everything you see in the papers or on the web.
Stephan

You saw what I want to you see and believe it or not is your problem not mine. You can report to Adobe and Yahoo if you think they sell illegal version.

I realize you’re not the most intelligent fungal mass in the forest but you could at least copy and paste my nickname so you get it right. Oh, wait, was that some sort of grammar school ‘name lame’?

Who is this "voidvoid" you keep referring to? Perhaps you either need glasses or some remedial reading lessons…

Life’s too short, just killfile him and move on. OTOH, it helps to imagine him as ‘Comic Book Guy’. Anyone as bitter and repugnant as him probably has either a physical or mental problem to cause it.
