Can anyone advise what colour profile to use for colour adverts which are to be sent to Distiller to create a hi-res pdf.

Phil,

It’s not that it’s being distilled into a PDF that matters, it is how that PDF will be used that will determine your required colour space

Hi Len,

I’ll be using the pdf to send to publishers of magazines as my advert (half page A4 colour).

I used to use an ad designer who made up a pdf from QuarkExpress, but it’s too expensive for the small changes I need. I therefore got him to do a basic background without text and invested in Photoshop to create the ads myself by inserting logos and text wherever needed.

My stumbling bock is what colour profile to use – I know it should be CMYK, but there are several options available.

I used Euroscale – but apparently that wasn’t correct. I then assigned and converted to Photoshop 5 Default CMYK – but am not sure that is correct.

If you’re not sure, SWOPv2 could be your best bet.

Phil,

Who said so?

Euroscale Coated is commonly used in the UK and I’ve never seen it cause any problems, but only the printer can tell you what colour space they world prefer.
