Clipboard and Photoshop CS?

I send an image to the clipboard with, say,
Thumbs Plus.
Then I load PS CS. PS says that it is importing
the clipboard. Has PS actually loaded the clipboard somewhere? I can of course load the clipboard image to it by using File/New/CTRL V.
What I am worried about is that I may be using double the memory for the same image. Is this true?
And, BTW, how exactly do we, occasionally, empty the clipboard? Do we have to?
Thank you!

I believe there is only one clipboard and when PS says loading clipboard it just means it is getting ready to use it.
In any case you could probably experiment by sending a large file to the clipboard and see if your temp file changes size.
Edit/purge/clipboard in version 7, dunno about v8.

Make a very small selection, or an empty one and send to the clipboard. If you don’t use special programs the clipboard can hold a file only at time.

Do we have to?
Thank you!
