I’ve seen this effect many places, but here is a link to one example:

http://www.jonmichaelsmusic.com/download_01/singlemom.html

It is the reddish background with the screen/line effect. Is that a filter that has made those tiny lines like a screen? What is the name of it?

Thanks!
Michael

Is that a filter
that has made those tiny lines like a screen?

No.

What is the name of it?

"Sadly overused cliche."

You can create the effect in any of a number of ways. One of them is to make a new document with a transparent background, one pixel wide and two pixels high. Make the top pixel white. Edit->Select All. Edit->Define Pattern. Create a layer over the image you want to apply this hokey, cheesy effect to. Edit->Fill with Pattern. Adjust transparency to suit.

Why do you consider it a cliche? I mean, I realize everyone and his mother is using it, but it does have its uses…

Other than doing the grid effect by hand, try Grids, a free selection plugin at http://www.users.cloud9.net/~gparet/photoshop/ (it shows up under the Selection menu)

Entirely correct. About the only more overused cliche is Zapf Chancery, something I will never forgive Adobe and Apple for.

Thanks for the instruction.

You can easily create a horizontal lined BG similar to that by simply greating a gif with 2/3 1 pixel high lines by 3 or 4pixel wide, then simply tiling it for the BG of your page, make sure it doesn’t give the users eye strain though!
