Please help. Why are dashes added to the filename when I do a "Save for web" within Photoshop even though I don’t type them? Thanks.

It means you probably have a space (or unrecognizable character) in the name. Browsers won’t recognise that so when you save for web, it adds an underscore.

Kim,

I’ve noticed the same when using the Web Photo Gallery. The source images are renamed with hypens substituted for any blank spaces, which I presume to be for the purpose of ensuring no problems with filenames on the web, as graffiti mentions.

It’d take more than an underscore. 🙂

You can turn off Macintosh and Unix compatibility in SFW preferences and preserve the spaces if you want (and have long file names too). But not recommended.
