Renaming the preferences file should work, but you may also need to delete other settings files as per Carl Carbone "CS hangs on "Reading Text Global Resources…Done" Start-up Message" 11/29/03 10:00pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/0>

Sorry I left that last reply so open-ended…I had to run off to assist someone.

I’m not certain what the other settings are either, but the post may have been referring to any other "Settings" folders in the Adobe Common Files area. I’d suggest searching for "Settings" on the C:\Program Files\Common\Adobe area, and see what turns up. Rather than delete them, perhaps just move anything found to another area on your drive so that they can be easily restored if need be.

Good luck,

Im having trouble With My CS To(except the stupid money thing), But this concernes RAM. Im working with a A3 page (150dpi) and when i`m going to the "save as" and save the file as JPG.(and press enter) I get a message that Photoshop cannot prosses the file because the machine has no more memory. (try not to select the smooth baseline…) I have set the RAM in CS to 90% And the computer has 2 GB of memory and 2 prosessors.

(this dos not happen to other small files)

Any Ideas?

(i run win2k)

turn the ram usage in prefrences down to about 50%, restart photoshop and try again.

I’m having exactly the same problem but I’ve been told it may be due to a shared printer on my home network. I have 2 PCs networked through an ADSL broadband router. Photoshop CS is on PC2. Photoshop starts up normally when PC1 is online, but when it is offline, I get this problem. It always hangs at "Reading Text Global Resources". Pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and restarting Photoshop sometimes gets it running again. It also starts normally when I unplug the network cable from PC2. The problem may be because Photoshop is looking for a shared network printer which is installed on PC1, which it can’t find if PC1 is offline. Removing the shared printer is supposed to fix the problem, but I didn’t try it yet. Hope this helps somewhat.

I’m having this same problem… CS freezes on "Reading Text Global Resources…Done". (although mine is the trial version)

I’ve tried, resetting the prefs, trashing the prefs file manually and deleting all of the font list files and changing my default printer from a network one too. Photoshop 7 still boots fine.

Anyone got any ideas? I’m supposed to be reviewing this to decide whether it’s worth upgrading and this isn’t looking good to he who controls the purse strings (i.e. the boss).

Well, I’ll be d8mned, I managed to sort it out! Only took 3 hours of hairpulling! Another post suggested deleting the settings- I wasn’t sure about this but I deleted all of the files in the C:\Documents and Settings\helen.polson\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder. And it worked! Something must be causing one of these files to become currupt- as we all seem to be on XP I wondered if it was a recent OS update or something?

Same problem here!
XP Pro, total hang at the same point. Error reporting shows an XP error 1001 & 1002. About to trash the prefs and try again….

And it worked!
The whole app is much more responsive too.
Is this one down to Microsoft or Adobe (I think I already know, but would like confirmation!!)

Thank you, Helen, you seem to have solved my problem too. I was beginning to doubt that my shared printer was causing the problem as CS crashed on start up yesterday when my other PC was online. I was also going to report that I was having a problem with the crop tool (I could only get it to go half way down the image file I was working on) but now everything is working perfectly since I deleted all the files in the Settings folder. It would be very interesting to know why this problem occurred in the first place though. I’m running Win XP Pro with SP1 and all the latest critical updates.

Great stuff Debbie 🙂
I’m also on Win XP Pro SP1 with all the critical updates. Anyone else the same?
