I am running Photoshop cs and something is confusing me. In Photoshop 7 when you had show scratch size at the bottom of the screen it would start of small. But now I am using CS it starts of massive and it does not matter how big the image is.

The link shows a small screen shot of what I mean

Does anyone know if this is a problem or it is like that by design.

This has been discussed and debated in many forums. It would appear that CS has a different memory managament scheme, thus while what you see does reflect how it uses its scratch disk, it does not use memory in the same way.

Some folks are finding CS to be quite a bit faster under certain circumstances, others are not. Either way, the amount of available RAM remains the key to PS happiness.

On my system I have 1.5 gig is SD ram which on the old machine was ample but using CS seems not to be enough. most of my work is on A4 @ 300dp1 pictures with multiple layers.
